El Hierro to be the first sustainable island in the world

September 22, 2011

The municipality of El Hierro is aiming to become the first fully ecological island. By signing a draft agreement with Endesa and the Renault Nissan Alliance, the island is developing the resources to meet its ambitions.

The three partners will each contribute their respective expertise. Endesa will study the development and maintenance of the charging network, based on the island's energy resources.

The Renault Nissan Alliance will share its experience in developing the technology necessary to set up a charging system compatible with its electric models, while El Hierro will build on the development of renewable energies to work towards carbon-free mobility.
